Hebei University of Engineering
Hebei University of Engineering HUE, jointly funded by Hebei Provincial Government and the Ministry of Water Resources of China, is a key provincial university. It is located in Handan, a famous historical and cultural city, known as ¡°the Capital of Chinese Idioms¡±. It covers an area of 350 acres, with the total construction area of the school buildings more than 90 thousand square meters. The new campus under construction occupies 675 acres.
Due to the hard work and dedication of generations of its staff and faculty, HUE has forged a unique spiritual character of its own, as best summarized in the motto ¡°Virtue and Aspiration, Knowledge and Practice¡±, which lays a solid foundation for the survival and development of HUE. Thus, a campus culture of the emphasis on moral integrity, the adherence to dream pursuing, as well the preference for application and innovation is gradually forged, giving rise to the natural outlet of academic excellence.
With a distinctive feature of engineering, HUE has developed a multi-disciplinary system, which covers engineering, sciences, management, agriculture, medicine, humanities, economics, law, arts, education and the like. There are 17 colleges, 1 independent college (Kexin College, HUE ), 2 teaching departments, 1 3-A hospital, 1 Class-A Architectural Design Institute, 1 primary school and 1 middle school. Now, HUE offers 79 undergraduate programs, 10 first-level graduate disciplines, 5 professional degree programs, 1 national doctoral program in Water Resource and Water Environment Regulation and Integrated Management and 1 post-doctoral research station in Hydraulic Engineering. HUE has 9 provincial key disciplines or developing disciplines, 4 national undergraduate characteristic disciplines, 2 national undergraduate comprehensive reform pilot programs, 1 national off-campus education practice base, 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 4 provincial undergraduate innovation bases, 8 provincial model programs, 5 provincial undergraduate comprehensive reform pilot programs, 4 dual bachelor education pilot programs, 2 provincial off-campus education practice bases, and 1 provincial simulation experiment teaching center.
HUE boasts a gallery of well-qualified staff. The staff totals 2,183, among whom 1,472 full-time teachers, 819 professors and associate professors, and 327 with Ph.D degrees. HUE adheres to the cultivation-oriented concept and fully devotes itself to the all-round development of graduates with social responsibility, spirit of innovation and practical ability. The university ranks high in its graduate employment rate and the employment quality throughout Hebei province. Graduates have made great contributions to the society in various fields such as architecture, mining, water conservancy, agriculture, and health care. Since 2011, HUE students have won more than 1,410 national awards in national science, academic and sports competitions. Presently, the university has 30,229 full-time undergraduates, 1,541 full-time graduate students, and 124 international students.
To embrace the key task of talent cultivation and the national or industrial strategy requirement, the university has been constantly devoted to scientific research, especially applied science and technology research and obtained many scientific and technological achievements. In the past five years, the university has undertaken 63 national research projects, as well as 620 provincial and ministerial research projects. As a cooperation unit, the university won 1 second prize in the National Science and Technology Advancement Prize. The projects presided by the university won 94 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. The university has published 141 academic works, 431 SCI papers and 420 EI papers. The Journal of Hebei University of Engineering (Natural Science Edition) is a core Chinese science journal and is included by ¡°Chemical Abstracts¡± (CA) in United States and ¡°Science Abstracts¡± (AJ) in Russia. The Journal of Hebei University of Engineering (Social Science Edition) is an outstanding national university social science journal.
HUE houses advanced facilities for teaching and research. It owns 1 academician workstation, 2 provincial collaboration and innovation centers, 2 key provincial laboratories, 7 provincial engineering technology research centers, 2 provincial industry technology research institutes, 2 provincial engineering laboratories, and 1 provincial social science research base. The library has a total collection of more than 2.2 million volumes, 1,544 newspapers and magazines, 42.5 thousand full-text electronic journals, 4 million E-dissertations and 40 databases at home and abroad. HUE has established a 10-Gigabit fibre-optic backbone with a speed of 1000 Mb/s for the campus computer network and wireless coverage.
HUE attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation. At present, the university has established a long and stable academic exchange and cooperation relationship with more than 30 universities in United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Malaysia and many other countries. As the sole editor unit, HUE co-hosts, with the British Science Press, Energy Survey and Development retrieved by SCI and EI. As one editor unit, it co-founds, with Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, and Tianjin University, Journal of Uncertainty Analysis and Applications (JUAA). As the first editor unit, it co-founds, with University of Alaska USA, Loughborough University UK and Ukraine National University of Architectural Technology, World Journal of Engineering included in Elsevier¡¯s Scopus database and distributed at home and abroad.
In 2015, with the strong support from Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Government, the New Campus Construction Project was launched with the joint efforts of Handan Municipal Government and HUE. The new campus (including Kexin College, HUE) covers an area of 675 acres (a net area of 596 acres) in the east area of Handan city, with the total planned construction area of 973,100 square meters. The project is being constructed in two phases. The first phase covers a construction area of 766,500 square meters and is planned to be completed by the end of 2017 with an investment of 4.325 billion RMB. The staff residential area, located in the southeast area of new campus, covers an area of 114 acres (a net area of 82 acres), with 1 primary school and 1 kindergarten also planned to be constructed.
Challenge requires commitment, while development tests obligation. All HUE people shall take the new campus construction as a new starting point, dare to innovate, seize the opportunities of development, and strive with all our efforts to construct HUE into a worldwide top modern university with a distinctive feature of engineering.
